Hours: 40-45 hours per week w/flexible schedule

Location: Bozeman, MT

Reports to: Chief Executive Officer (CEO)

Job Description: 

As the Director of Tax at FABC, you will develop, manage and lead our taxation service line. You will be working directly with financial advisors and their clients in tax services including tax preparation, planning, research, and compliance. You will be responsible for managing the tax return preparation of individual, corporate, partnership, and other entity returns with minimal supervision and will be responsible for resolving most tax issues. In addition, you will lead, manage, and hold a team of tax professionals accountable for achieving accurate and timely results.

We launched a beta version in the 2018 tax season of a white labeled tax preparation offering for our financial advisor members to provide to their clients. This position will be responsible with hiring and training tax preparers, and helping us scale this high-growth business line. If you have always wanted to build a tax practice the right way, but have been held back by legacy systems and thought processes, then this blank slate will be your ideal sandbox. 


  • Oversee the development of the FABC taxation service line
  • Responsible for executing the strategic vision of this new service line; developing comprehensive goals for performance, growth strategies and achieving or exceeding established objectives
  • Manage a team of tax professionals and assistants working on client projects along with attracting, retaining and developing this team of high-performers
  • Prepare and review tax returns, including complex filings, work papers, estimated tax payments, and other various tax compliance filing requirements 
  • Perform technical research to address more complex tax issues, including planning opportunities 
  • Provide tax compliance and advisory services to partnerships, corporations, and individuals
  • Provide other tax support as needed
  • Effectively problem-solve and resolve issues that arise amongst the service line. Must be comfortable with conflict, addressing issues, and solving problems in a practical and healthy manner in a rapidly growing business.

  • Collaborate and sync with the bookkeeping service line of FABC


Required Qualifications:

  • CPA
  • 5+ years of tax experience in public accounting, or related field
  • Lacerte tax software or equivalent experience
  • Ability to work both collaboratively with teammates and independently with little supervision
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills

Compensation & Benefits:

  • Salary: $85,000 / year 

  • Relocation assistance available, if applicable
